With the official entry list for the pro Physique division appearing a week before the Greater Gulf States contest on June 21, the event had all the trappings of an interesting scuffle among several contestants who carried notable contest resumes over the past year and a half.

Well, much can be said about the women's bodybuilding division at this year's Toronto Supershow held at the John Bassett Theatre in the Toronto Metro Convention Centre on June 1st, but one thing is certain, it won't soon be forgotten. Serving as the first Olympia qualifier of the year for women's bodybuilding, it was understandable that the 15 contestants who ventured to Toronto for this event would be 'bringing it'. And they did. Boy did they.

There is a two-letter word saved for very special women. Silent screen star Clara Bow made it famous in 1927. She was called the “IT” girl. The term became part of the cultural lexicon. And as any competitor or fan of bodybuilding knows, bodybuilding has it's own very unique lexicon of terms to describe the nuances of the sport. But on May 25th at the Tribeca Theatre in Manhattan, transplanted Brazilian Juliana Malacrane became the “IT” girl of the Pro Women's Physique division.

By this date last year the Desert Muscle Classic, St. Louis Pro and the California Governor's Cup had contributed to the inaugural year of the Pro Physique division. And it was just one day short of a year ago that promoter Jon Lindsay staged the first L.A. Grand Prix Pro Physique event at the Veteran's Auditorium in Culver City.
