The buzz was still electric at Bev and Steve's Powerhouse Gym on the Monday following the New York Pro. Photo shoots and contract negotiations dominated the iron atmosphere. These shoots are typical after a major contest as all the bodybuilders and fitness chicks are in top shape. Nutritional supplement companies, magazines, clothing companies, and everyone else use the competition as an opportunity to take some quality photos for their next article, cover, or advertisement. Periodically, these photo sessions also provide the opportunity for the athletes to be signed to different types of contracts, and there were no exceptions at the Syoccet, New York gym. Dave Palumbo and I walked into the gym intending to train chest, but once we saw all the activity, Dave suggested that I don my Yenta hat and get a story.
After his poor showing at the New York Pro (9th palce), Roelly Winklaar has decided to sit out the remainder of the 2011 season.
The 2011 Europa FIBO Power USA was scheduled for September 29 – October 2, 2011 in Chicago, Illinois. That would have put the show two weeks after the Olympia Weekend. This was supposed to be Ed and Betty Pariso’s fourth show of the year. Last week, this event was officially removed from the IFBB Pro schedule (www.ifbbpro.com). And, as of a week ago, you could have gone to www.chicagofitnessandsportexpo.com and checked out the much-anticipated events, schedules, and other relevant info pertaining to the show. Now when you visit the site, here is what you see:
Two weeks ago, Pro Bodybuilding Weekly reported that Ronnie Coleman was making a comeback at the Return of the Legends show in Miami on December 10th (Listen to PBW Radio Clip Here)
PBW host Dan Solomon stated, "The promoter has confirmed. Ronnie Coleman is planning on competing in this contest." Texas NPC Chairman Lee Thompson added, "I spoke to the folks over at MetroFlex gym where Ronnie has trained for years-and Brian Dobson. By all accounts he is getting ready for this December show."
On April 7, 2011, IFBB Pro Silvio Samuel was arrested and charged with numerous counts of battery, assault, and domestic violence. Silvio was missing in action last season, and was planning a return to the stage later in 2011; however, I suspect that won't be happening now. I was not able to reach Silvio since he's still in jail, nor was I able to reach his girlfriend. Therefore, I'll be doing my best to lay out the two conflicting stories that are currently circulating around the bodybuilding community.
