From the outside looking in it must be pretty cool to be a bodybuilder. You get to hang out all day, go to the gym whenever you want, fly all over the world for contests, guest appearances, and seminars, and let’s not forget bang hot little fitness chicks. Sounds like the life, huh? Well, what about all of the b.s. and headache that comes with being a bodybuilder; you know, the stuff they don’t write about in the magazines? The stuff they never tell the 16 year old kid down at GNC who’s buying another tub of NoXplode. Let’s face it, when you take off the posing oil and step out of the gym, life isn’t as cool as you might think for a bodybuilder.
Like him or not Phil Heath, “The Gift,” must be on a mental high right now and deservedly so. Phil has quickly climbed the mountain of success in bodybuilding that few have even approached, and he has done so in an unprecedented fashion. "The Gift" did what many felt impossible at the time by defeating the Goliath of Jay Cutler in a similar fashion to the way Jay did Ronnie in 2006. As someone in his position how could you not feel good about yourself and confident in your status given the circumstances it took to get there, and the fact that you were able to achieved it, it in this case a task only 12 other men have accomplished.
Good morning good afternoon and good evening, my journey did not begin in 2012. As Toney Freeman said Shawn has been good for a long time but they just didn’t see him.
Bodybuilding is a funny sport, it’s the only sport where having a coach is looked upon as unique. I assume it’s because the average pseudo bodybuilder who lifts down at your local gym doesn’t feel he needs any help from anyone and certainly not from a personal trainer. The same guy I imagine opens up a bodybuilding mag and sees nearly every top pro in the sport giving praise to one of the gurus and can’t figure out why such a great bodybuilder would need help from anyone. So what is all this talk about gurus anyway?
Earlier this week, Dave Palumbo broke the news on Heavy Muscle Radio that Mel Chancey would be joining the RxMuscle team to bring more radio entertainment to all of the bodybuilding fans around the world. For those not familiar with Mel he has a checkered past that includes time behind bars for his involvement with a notorious motorcycle club. I caught up with Mel, now 43, earlier this week to discuss his past, how bodybuilding has changed and help shape his life, and where he sees his place at RxMuscle.
