Rodriguez Almost Tells the Truth Again!

With nine seasons left on his 10 year $275 million deal with the Yankees, Alex Rodriguez is inches away from stepping into the new $1.5 billion dollar Yankees Stadium where he is expected to break Barry Bonds' home run record.  That would surely be an awe-inspiring feeling, except for the fact that Rodriguez is under intense scrutiny right now.

During a news conference yesterday, Rodriguez sidestepped questions as to whether or not he cheated or agreed with Bud Selig's assertion that he sullied baseball.  These issues, among others, hinge on recent news that was leaked from a sealed order that indicated that Rodriguez had failed a random drug test in 2003 for testosterone and Primobolan (methenolone).

Making his second public attempt to explain the 2003 positive drug test, baseball's highest-paid player described a clumsy scheme in which his cousin persuaded him to use "bole" - a substance he claims his cousin obtained without a prescription and without consulting doctors or trainers. Rodriguez said this cousin, whom he wouldn't identify, told him it would cause a "dramatic energy boost."

At first he said his cousin injected him "twice a month for about six months during the 2001, 2002 and 2003 seasons." Later he said, "It may be once a month; it may be three times a month."

The way I see it, it had to have been a whole lot more than once a month.  "Bole" is a Dominican term for Primobolan.  Primobolan acetate is made by Schering and comes in 100mg/ml dosages.  The prevailing wisdom is that, in men, you need 300-600mg per week for it to be effective.   Now, it's entirely possible that Rodriguez did in fact only receive these specified injections; however, chances are it's more likely that he was taking regular weekly injections along with the testosterone he was on.

My point is, if you're supposedly out to tell the truth, why don't you?  Rodriguez has a chance here to be a hero and to tell the world, "YES, I did use steroids".  He can show the public that he used them safely and effectively his whole pro career and there's nothing physiologically wrong with him.  It would be nice if just one of these supposed role models would stand up and finally act like a role model and tell the truth!
