RX: Ashley, please introduce yourself for the Rising Muscle readers.
AY: Ashley York, 29 years old. I have always been somewhat athletic growing up… playing volleyball, dance team, and cheer as a child.
I got into training about two years ago after I gave birth to my son. After having him I wanted to get in the best shape of my life! I entered my first NPC competition not knowing what to expect.
I won first place and fell in love with the sport. I went on to do six more competitions, all finishing in first place and two overall wins as well as the title of NPC Mrs. Louisiana. And I was crowned Vi Model! I am the face of ViSalus, the number one health and fitness company in the world, a salon owner, and stylist… my mission is to show moms across the globe that anything is possible with drive, motivation, determination, and focus! Become the best version of yourself!
RX: What does your training schedule look like each week?
AY: I train twice a week with my trainer doing heavy weight training. On the other three days I train myself doing a mixture of weights and HIIT along with cardio five days a week.
RX: How many years have you been training and what got you into weightlifting in the first place?
AY: I have been training for almost two years and my husband is the reason I got started.
RX: Only two years, that’s really impressive! Earlier you mentioned that you have an athletic background, but how much time was there between when you were active with volleyball and dance team and when you started to focus fulltime on fitness?
AY: I was active in high school, but took a break from it for about 10 years. Then I started training after gaining 65 pounds – after having my son – to get in shape.
RX: If you had to live your life all over again, would you do something differently?
AY: Absolutely not! Everything I have been through in life has made me into the woman I am today and I wouldn’t change a thing. I live my life with no regrets and the motto of you only live once, so make the best out of every day that God gives you.
RX: Do you have any funny or crazy stories that you remember from the old gym days that you would like to share with us?
AY: My all-time most embarrassing moment was actually not too long ago. I was doing a heavy set of squats and my pants ripped down the seam in the back! Thankfully, I had a pullover in my gym bag, tied it around my waist and kept training. :)
RX: When are you planning to compete again and how far do you want to go in your competitive career?
AY: I have my next show just three short weeks away and I couldn’t be more excited! I want to go very far in my competitive career! :) All the way to the top, of course.
RX: In the round up, if there is anyone you would like to thank or something you want to add, please feel free to do so.
First I would like to thank my husband for always supporting me and believing in me and always pushing me to be my very best. Moreover, my coach/nutritionist Kash Guidry for always dialing my body in on-point every single competition.
I would also like to thank my trainer Ken Falgoust for pushing me past my limits and improving my physique, and also IFBB Pro Sarah Leblanc for the posing instructions and Jean Chambers for the best spray tans.
I would also like to thank the ViSalus community and all my family and friends for supporting me. :) And last but not least my three-year-old son Zephyr, because of you making me want to be the best for you!
Ashley, thank you for the interview. I’m quite sure that you will rise in the rankings and earn your IFBB Pro card in the Bikini division really soon. Keep up the great work and stay hungry. Everyone from Rx Muscle wishes you all the best in your future endeavors.
