Our next Rx Girl is NPC Bikini athlete Elizabeth “Liz” Gillette from Grants Pass, Oregon. Liz is 32 years old and she recently won the 2014 Bikini class of the Emerald Cup and has now qualified to compete in national competitions. Gillette won the 2013 Emerald Cup as well. We took time to ask her some questions about her opinions on fitness and her career in the industry.
Q: Liz, in your opinion, what makes a good Bikini competitor?
A: In my opinion what makes a good bikini competitor is someone who is confident, classy, motivated and who works hard to better themselves each time they step on that stage. It’s so important to remember that you are your biggest competition and challenge yourself at each show to be better than at the last… always improving.
Q: How did you decide to compete?
A: I wanted to reach some new fitness goals and do something that would be a challenge to myself. I had met a few people who had been involved in the sport as Figure and Bikini competitors and I loved how their physiques looked. I also knew that being on stage in a bikini would help me overcome my shy personality and help boost my confidence!
Q: How many years have you been weight training and what motivated you to start to train in the first place?
A: This is my second year competing and I’m loving it! I started out thinking I would just try one show just to say, "Yay, I did it!" But after my first show where I took second, I fell in love with the sport and couldn't wait for my next competition. I’m hooked! ;) I love seeing changes in my physique and improvements on my stage appearance.
Q: Do you have any special advice for girls who want to compete in the Bikini division?
A: Definitely my advice is to stay strong and motivated! It can be very easy to lose sight of why you started in the first place. Remember that you are doing this for yourself and not for anyone else. Be confident in what a beautiful woman you are and show everyone how hard you have worked to be on that stage. And always remember to have fun with it! You worked hard; enjoy your time on stage!
Q: What do you do if your training motivation is low?
A: When my motivation is low (especially during peak week) I remember how hard I have worked and all the sacrifices I have made to do this. I think of how far I have come both mentally and physically and think about how fun it’s going to be to rock the stage. I think of my two amazing kids who are always so supportive of their mommy and always telling me how proud they are of me. What’s better motivation than that? ;)
Q: Is there anyone you want to give a shout out to?
A: Thank you so much to all my friends and family who have supported me in this journey and traveled thousands of miles to watch me compete. Thanks to my trainers Josh Field and Victoria Adelus IFBB pro figure and my team... TEAM ABC. You guys are amazing and I couldn’t do it without you! Thanks to all my friends and fans. Love you all and appreciate your support!
We at Rx Muscle would like to thank you for the interview and we hope that you will continue your fitness path in similar fashion as you have done prior to the upcoming challenges. In addition to this, that you will earn your IFBB Pro card.
