Small Package....Big Punch
The Fun Loving NPC Future Figure Star Rebecca Schubeck
Story By Rob Rosetti
She comes from the State where everything seems a bit bigger. Texas darling Rebecca Schubeck might not be big in stature but her physique sure delivers one heck of a punch.Rebecca is relatively knew to the NPC stage but this year alone, she has left an imprint worth noting. This past Summer, Rebecca won the Overall Figure Championships at the very hotly contested NPC Coastal USA in Atlanta, GA, placed in her Class at the 2010 IFBB North Americans and won her Open Figure Class and the Overall Masters Figure Class at the 2010 NPC Eastern USA. Yes this girl is on a winning streak and she hopes to continue the trend this weekend at the 2010 NPC Nationals. You have to spend some time with this fire plug to realize just how special she truly is. She exudes the energy of the Energizer Bunny, can make you laugh so hard it hurts and is a true delight to be around. But, in the gym, all the fun is put aside as she attacks the weights with the vengeance of a prize fighter in a tough sparring match.Don't be surprised this weekend if you see the Texas darling hop off stage with her trophy or break into her famous "Peanut Jelly Time" dance. Here is her exclusive Rx Girl interview: 1. Birth PlacePearland, Texas2. Current ResidenceSpring Branch, Texas (North of San Antonio)3. Your Trainer- THE BESTEST BOMBSHELL MAMA EVER!!! SHANNON DEY4. When did you get interested in competing in NPC FigureI have always loved to watch the bodybuilding, Fitness, and Figure athletes in action since I was young. I had always been an athlete in sports, dance, and gymnastics. As I finally got the nerve to try to train for a fitness competition, I unfortunately suffered a traumatic car accident (as a passenger) that broke my back in 2 places. I was basically told that I wouldn't recover. I would not ever be able to pick up more than 15 lbs, and if I could walk normally again, know that I would never be able to run.At first I was defeated, but then I started to get angry and determined. So I went through experimental injections during the time I was bed-ridden, started rehab and exercising and after 2 years and a GOD given second chance, I started to get all my mobility and function back. At that time I needed to find my next step, and had always been a fan of NPC athletes, so I began my adventure in Figure and Fitness training. Figure and Fitness training brought me back to life! I'm so greatful that God blessed me with a New beginning, real a second chance! That's when God brought Shannon Dey into my life!I'm so grateful! 5. What part of competing do you like best?Finding what's in your heart, the strength to go even further than you imagined or gave yourself credit for. I also have to say that its been such a blessing to have met the most beautiful athletes inside and out. I feel these friendships will last a lifetime.6. What part of competing do you like least? I love the experience and opportunities so much that you learn to appreciate it all! EVEN THE LOADS OF ASPARAGUS U EAT!!! 8. If you weren't competing in Figure what would you be competing in? FITNESS!9. Describe your typical day.I get up at 4:00 am pack and prepare food for all day to teach class at 5:30am. After class, I train a couple clients, then I do my hour cardio session. I then train a few more clients, with some I may have to travel to their house for rehab (stroke/heart/fine and gross motor skills) then I go back to gym, train myself w/strength training, train a couple more clients, and then do my last cardio session or finish up what I haven't done, maybe teach one more class (depends on what day) and then I drive home to the boonies that I love, cook dinner and sit down or pass out 10. Like all National level athletes you must have times when you just can't muster up the energy to go to the gym or do that extra cardio session. Who usually helps you get over that hump?DEFINATELY GOD and my determination but my STUBBORNESS sure does help!!!!!11. I hear that a lot of Figure and Bikini Athletes experience what is commonly known as a show mental meltdown somewhere between the 5th and 3rd week before a show. Has that ever happened to you and how did you overcome it? Actually I can't say that has ever happened to me. Its been a gift just to be able to exercise and do what I can do, to have the ability to walk on stage.12. Who in the sport serves as role models for you?Shannon Dey- Figure/Fitness/and bodybuilding! Enough said!!!! She's awesome!I have always like Corey Everson too!!!13. Who in the IFBB Figure ranks do you think your body most resembles? YIKES! I can only hope Erin Stern the New Ms. Figure Olympia, but I really honestly try not to compare/or focus on what you physically have or don't have developed.......I just put my heart, devotion, determination, blood, sweat, and tears in my program and do the best I can.14. What's your goals in the sport?I would love an Olympia Invite!!! AWESOME!!! To be an FMG athlete!!! ETC ETC!!! I am definately a dreamer!!!15. Anyone you would like to thank?GOD! , Shannon & Rob Dey, My husband, and my Mother.16. What's up next for you?Wherever God takes me! Definately is going to be a lot of hard work, but a blessed adventure!!!
