You Call This Dieting?: Volume 1:
Peanut Butter Banana French Toast Using P28 High Protein Bread and BSN Desert Protein!
Dieting (adjective): a period of time where one deprives themselves of delicious and satisfying foods in order to obtain the ideal physique or weight. Right? WRONG!
So many times people have approached me with questions about how I stay satisfied pre contest and when I diet, which for me, is year round. As I write for RX Girl, you will notice I have to diet harder, longer and more restrictive then most because of my hypothyroid problem. I tend to diet very much like a diabetic – low, low carb. Low carb happens to be a solution, made popular by Dr. Atkins, for cutting weight in a quick manner, but can often have an intense rebound when carbohydrates are reintroduced in someones diet.
For me, it’s not about avoiding “delicious” foods all together, it’s about making smart swaps that allow me to stay sane, satisfied & happy.
One of my very favorite breakfasts comes to you in the form of Peanut Butter Banana French Toast! Let’s check out what you are going to need!
PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter – 2 tablespoons
BSN Desert Protein in Banana Nut Flavor – ½ scoop
P28 High Protein Bread - 2 slices
Egg Whites – 4
PAM Cooking Spray – Enough to lightly coat the pan
*Optional: Vanilla Extract – just a drop for taste
Directions:
In a medium bowl, whip together the egg whites, PB2 and Banana Nut protein. (and the Vanilla extract if you so choose)
Spray the pan with a light coating of Pam and let it heat up.
Dip the P28 High Protein Bread in the Peanut Butter/Banana Nut Protein/Egg Mix till both sides are coated
Place the slices in the pan, and flip after 2-3 minutes.
Now, this doesn’t seem like rocket science, but let’s look at the comparisons;
A typical serving of French Toast will run you about 900 calories, 45 grams of fat – 11 of which are Saturated, 620 grams of cholesterol, 1290 grams of sodium, 88 carbs, 23 grams of sugar, and 36 grams of protein. I’m sorry, I just gained weight typing that!
This high protein version will “cost” you 300 calories, 10 grams of fat, 884 grams of sodium, 33 grams of carbohydrates – of which 7 grams are fiber and 8 grams of sugar and a whopping 63 grams of protein. Okay, the weight came off!
Now, making this delicious breakfast is dieting how? Other then it meets the criteria of being a healthy, well balanced meal, this is by no means a deprivation of food or flavor. Top it with some Palmers no sugar, high fiber jams and jellies with a dash of cinnamon (helps maintain healthy blood sugar – another thyroid fix!) and you have yourself something that won’t ruin your day – it’ll help you get started!!
There are so many uses to your proteins other then mixing them up in a Blender bottle and guzzling them down and BSN is a great example of high flavor proteins that don’t lose their nutritional value when used cold or hot! Stay tuned….
