DETOXING/CLEANSING...IS IT FOR YOU?

thumbnail-5DETOXING/CLEANSING...IS IT FOR YOU?

Hi MuscleRx readers, TrainerLisa here with an important issue that I and maybe you see a lot: On any given day magazines, TV and radio stations will discuss a singer or actress and what they do to get into "red carpet" shape and many will say "The Lemonade Diet or Cleanse"!

Well before you or someone you know decides to jump on this interesting band wagon, I'm going to give you the true 411 about detoxing/cleansing and the Lemonade Diet, which is really called the Master Cleanse.

Now you may/may not know, but we ingest toxins everyday in our air, water, use more drugs for various ailments, and consume more sugars, processed as well as refined foods.

Detoxification/cleansing is anything that supports our bodily elimination. This can be something as simple as drinking more water, eating more fruits and vegetables, eating less meats and dairy/milk products to which can help create less congestion and more elimination (2-3 bowel movements a day).

Who does Detoxification/Cleansing Work Best For?
Here are just some of the signs and symptoms of toxicity where Detoxification/Cleansing hmaster-cleanseas been shown to help and improve:
Ÿ Headaches
Ÿ Runny nose
Ÿ Fatigue
Ÿ Joint Pains
Ÿ Tight or stiff neck
Ÿ Sinus Congestion
Ÿ Insomnia
Ÿ Anxiety
Ÿ Constipation
Ÿ Fatigue
Ÿ Obesity
Ÿ Migraine headaches…just to name a few!!

Please keep in mind that detoxing/cleansing isn’t for everyone and should not be taken lightly. Yes you will lose weight and most people feel better, but for many some symptoms may begin with hunger, headache, constipation, dizziness and fatigue, so it’s important that you’re able to rest comfortably.  If you’re new to detoxing/cleansing it may be advisable to start on Fridays as you’ll be able to monitor your body a little better as the first few days are the hardest.  For those that are experienced in detoxing/cleansing, many choose the start of the week.

Again, you will lose weight on the Lemonade Diet because the fast creates a serious calorie deficit. But chances are, what you'll lose is water weight and precious muscle -not the fat you want to get rid of, especially for those who are not exercising.  When it comes to detoxification/cleansing your liver already has an awesome handle on this, and many experts will point out it can be dangerous for many.  Detoxing/cleansing can rob your intestines of healthy bacteria that aid digestion and boost immunity.
Another risk of rapid weight loss is the loss of lean muscle tissue. Without enough protein in the diet, your body must get protein from some other source -- so it burns its own muscle mass. At the end of the fast, the dieter will weigh less, but his or her body will be higher in fat and lower in muscle.
Your lean muscle and fluids are the first to go on starvation diets, NOT body fat.  Keep in mind that the problem is that when you lose muscle mass, you turn down your metabolism, so it is counterproductive when you return to normal eating because you will need fewer calories.
Another problem with this and other fasting plans is that many dieters eat everything in sight afterward.  If you’ve ever done a competition you know what I’m talking about!
Whenever you follow an extremely restrictive diet plan, it is usually followed by an extreme binge and then the weight you gain will actually be increased bodyfat!
Ok..now that you know the pros and cons…This is what the fuss is all about! Master Cleanse (or Lemonade Diet)!

No solid foods are allowed, nor are any supplements. The plan calls for you to drink 6 or more servings daily of the lemonade drink. You can also make a container of 4-6+ servings to take with you.  A single serving of the Master Cleanse drink consists of:
· 2 tablespoons fresh-squeezed lemon juthumbnail-6ice.
· 2 tablespoons grade-B organic maple syrup.
· 1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper.
· 10 ounces filtered water.
After following this fast for 4-14 days, I strongly urged to slowly ease back into solid food, starting with foods like vegetable soup, followed by fruits and vegetables.
*Remember, your workouts should be tailored to how you’re feeling and don’t push yourself too hard while you’re detoxing/cleansing!

Fitfully yours,
