Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Quarter Turn To The Right and Let Down Your Long Hair!
The Stage Is Your Runway
Aside from a feminine appearance and overall conditioning as well as a fluid, yet sculpted physique, there are somethings you just can’t overlook when it comes to competition preparation and your performance on stage. Remember to not get so caught up in your body’s conditioning that you are two weeks out from your show and haven’t thought of your hair or makeup style! These items are just as important as your final weeks workouts!
Newbie to the stage or a seasoned vet, we all know how important your appearance from the neck up weighs on your score. It’s equally important as your appearance from the neck down! And, yes, ladies, this includes augmentation placement or for some, the lack thereof. But, that’s a whole other topic and article in itself! Other ways to bring out your personality and feminism is through music selection as well as something as simple as a sparkling white smile!
Here’s Where It Gets Hairy
According to the rules and regulations, female competitors must not allow there musculature to be overshadowed by the hair, but this does not mean it has to be worn up or cut short to be acceptable. Although cropped and chopped styles among women competitors has been a rarity since the beginning of time, some women avoided the axe and just simply began pulling their hair back or wearing hairstyles like classic high buns and French buns.
Thanks to competitors like Women’s Physique Olympian Dana Linn Bailey and IFBB Bikini Pro Vanessa Campbell sporting an even shorter version – similar to a sultry pixie in jet black hues – the popularity for the fresh and seductive cuts grew among fans as well as other competitors across the various divisions. Both ladies’ hairstyles fit their personalities and complimented their overall stage package adding points to their scorecards.
Those who opt for a long and flowing hairstylewill also run into a bit more expense. If you are blessed with a head of luscious thick locks that can withstand the heat and intensity of all-day competition, then you are lucky enough to not have to add a few inches to your hair to complete your desired look. To achieve a thicker, fuller, longer style some women choose to add a few synthetic pieces of hair fiber closely matching their natural hair color. These extensions are also available in 100% real human hair from various ethnicity backgrounds to help women achieve a more natural look that can’t always be achieve with a synthetic hair attachment.
Once the type of hair is chosen, a competitor can choose the lifespan of the style based on the method used to attach the extensions. Methods like “clips” and “pins” allow for smaller wefts to be applied to the scalp and adjusted or removed freely, where as “sewn-in” or “weaved” addition is good to last for moderately a longer period of time.
Some women replace these types of applications every two weeks to three or even four months! This all depends on how one also is responsible in caring for their new hair. It can be washed, styled, dyed, and cut just like your own hair and should be treated as such, if not better seeing as how applications run around $80-600 depending on the region of the country and type of hair you choose.
If you are looking for a salon finished looked that lasts even longer than the aforementioned method, there are follicle-safe bond applications that have built in protein treatments like keratin and placenta right in the tip of the extension that will come into contact with your natural hair’s follicle to be bonded by some sort of thermal applicator. This method works well for women who are suffering from alopecia and severely thinning edges as well as hair that is fine and sensitive to other methods of application.
And, of course, you know I couldn’t talk about hair accessories without talking about wigs! Available in various styles, textures, and human grade origins, prices vary from as little as $23-$400 for top brand closures, but I have yet to see a competitor pull off a polished wig and not look obvious, so I suggest skipping this option, personally.
My Lipgloss Is Poppin!
So, you got your suit, accessories, music, and hairstyle picked out. Now, what about make-up? Make-up artists and their entourage are ready and waiting to doll you up for your special day, so why do it yourself? If you don’t have it in your budget to hire a professional MUA, go to the department store and have them give you some professional tips on the proper process for applying that specific stage look.
Just don’t be that chick who walks on stage with invisible eyes and eyebrows and pale lips! Because that’s exactly what you will look like to the judges once those bright lights hit you! I believe there is a fine line between “stage-performance” makeup artistry and Halloween costumes! This is why I suggest you hire a professional or begin practicing your make-up and eyelash applications weeks prior to your show. Matching the right foundation tones to your tan and not your everyday hues is crucial.
Professional MUA diva of the NPC and IFBB circuit, J. Zubire, and her entourage are aware of all skin tones and light settings and super thorough in providing you with the hottest look for your stage performance or fitness photo shoot. Don’t forget to book in advance whether you choose J. or another MUA vendor for you show.
