Ten Questions With NPC Bikini Competitor Lauren Triani
1. What is your favorite part about competing? What is the most challenging for you?
My favorite part about competing is being on stage presenting my hard work. No part leading up to a show is easy. Diet, cardio, intense training nothing is easy about the 14-week process. To be able to have completed the process successful is being a winner no matter what placing you get.
I love to get all dolled up and get on stage after months of being in gym clothes and covered in sweat. The most challenging thing for me is to keep positive. To be honest about 4 weeks until each show I’ve competed in something in my personal life seems to come crashing down. So staying calm and relaxed, telling myself daily I will easy prep is hard.
I’m being completely honest I am very emotional and passionate about everything I do. I put my heart and soul into each prep as well as into the people in my life. I always try to smile during my toughest workout, longest cardio sessions and when I’m sick of eating fish and veggies. I learned to smile though all the toughest times in life during my years competing.
2. Do you enjoy working the Species booth at the shows? What are some of your favorite memories?
I enjoy very much working the Species booths at the shows. I love to be at the shows and being able to work the Species booth is something I take a lot of pride in doing at the shows. One of my favorite memories is the first time I worked the booth at the Tampa Pro this year I had to set up the booth, of course. Well, the boxes with the products were stacked up taller than me!
As I was literally jumping to reach the small box on the top to begin setting up someone from the booth next to me looked at me, laughed, and took my boxes down and set them where I could unpack them.
This sport can be seen sometimes as selfish, that everyone is in it for themselves, but that a total stranger helped me really does prove that everyone HELPS each other and supports each other whether on stage, backstage, or the expo.
3. What is your favorite Species product and why do you like it?
My favorite Species product is Isolyze, to be specific, Vanilla Peanut Butter Isolyze. I love this product and refer it to everyone I know. I am extremely sensitive when it comes to food in general. I always had issue with proteins; the chalky tastes, the bloating effect it had on my stomach, and all the carbs in most of the proteins (during prep I have zero carbs).
When I began competing in the NPC and began using the Species Nutrition products, I felt and saw the difference in my body. Isolyze has just enough protein for me in 1 scoop and doesn’t make my stomach do back flips after drinking a shake. Isolyze is no-carb, no-sugar, and no-fat protein. I don’t think you can get any better than that! I couldn’t survive with out my Isolyze.
4. If you had to choose between never bathing and never going to the gym again, which would you choose and why?
This question made me laugh. Well, if I couldn’t go to the gym at least once a day every day I would lose my mind. Ever since I could remember I was in a sport of some kind, always have been very active. I consider my gym time as a therapy session where I can just let it all out and not be judged. Weights and treadmills don’t talk back. People are sweaty and smelly in the gym anyway so I don’t think anyone would notice if I didn’t take a bath anyway.
5. What do you do for work? Describe what is the most rewarding thing about it?
So I have a few things I do for work; I personal train part time and hostess at my family’s restaurant. Working at my family’s restaurant isn’t really considered a job, I do get paid to work there, but I love my mom and step dad very much. I don’t go in there seeing it as a job. My family has had a fine dining Italian restaurant in Daytona Beach, Florida for 20 years, family owned and operated and that’s something my step dad prides himself on.
If me being there hostessing helps the business, I will do it forever because family comes first. I am certified as a personal trainer and train at a local gym. I don’t have too many clients but the ones I do have I am proud to say that I am happy to have. I am just starting out as a trainer. Only 6 months I have been training, but the biggest reward at the end of the day is knowing that I have helped someone. The more you give the more you receive in life.
6. What hobbies and interests do you have outside of competing?
Outside of competing I love to just take a nice day and go to the beach. I would be miserable if I didn’t live by the beach. To just relax and look at water is something I enjoy very much.
7. What is the greatest memory you have of prepping and competing in shows?
One of my favorite memories of prepping for my first show (when I only had 5 weeks to prep) and every day that first week my gallon of water fell off the Stairmaster every morning until I figured out how to set the gallon jug perfectly on the Stairmaster. This really showed me that when things are crazy you just have to laugh and not get upset.
Favorite memory of competing would have to be my first show where I completely fell in love with competing. Everyone was so positive, encouraging and helpful! I knew this was the environment I wanted to surround myself with.
8. Please tell your most embarrassing moment.
My most embarrassing moment would have to be when I ran out of clean gym capris and I decided to do my sprints in sweat pants because I was too lazy to go wash clothes at that moment and I had to do my cardio. So as I am sprinting full force my sweat pants just drop. I don’t think I realized this until I almost tripped over them around my ankles! But I definitely trained at a different gym for two weeks after this happened.
9. If you could stay any age forever, what age would you stay and why?
If I could pick any age and stay that way forever, honestly, I love where I am right now in life, so I guess I would have to say 24. I’ve had so many doors open for me this year and I personally think I have matured mentally, come into my own.
10. Who inspires you the most and why?
The person who inspires me the most is my grandmother. My grandmother passed away in 2008, but not a day goes by that I do not think of her. My mom was a single parent for a while. And while my mom worked so I could go to Catholic school and take gymnastics and ballet classes, my grandma took care of me.
Until the day she passed away she always was a hard working strong woman. My grandma always told me never to give up, to always be strong, and to never ever show fear or weakness. I really have taken to heart everything she taught me and hopefully can make her proud as she watches over me.
