Fit, Fun and 21: Journal 3: Finding your Motivation
It seems sometimes when you’re doing shows or even just training to be fit and healthy, it gets hard to keep yourself motivated. There are temptations everywhere to throw you in the opposite direction. More often than not, there are many more signs to send you off your track, than to keep you on it. This makes it very easy to fall off a bit, and once you fall off a little, it’s just a slippery slope until you end up in a place you didn’t plan on being. That being said it’s important to keep finding reasons to motivate yourself.
Whether it’s an event, a show, or just to feel better about yourself, the motivation has to come from within. You can’t look for it elsewhere because at the end of the day you have to hold yourself accountable to what you want to accomplish. Very often if I don’t have “something” to train for and look forward to, I find myself struggling to eat as cleanly as I should or hit cardio as often, and all it does it make me feel badly about myself and what I’ve done. I have to work hard every day reminding myself this is my choice and I love living a fit and healthy lifestyle.
I can’t stress enough wanting things for YOURSELF and no other reason are the keys to your motivation and success. You have to be able to look past what other people think and want for you and drive to what you want for yourself. The things you want most for yourself have to be kept close to your head and heart to keep yourself moving towards them.
A few different ways to keep yourself motivated that I use are simple. If I’m training for a show, I like to keep the show’s website as the background of my phone, just as a reminder for myself on days that seem a little tougher. If I’m getting in shape for an event, I make sure I have a poster of it hung somewhere that I’ll see very often. Whatever you’re training for, whether it be life or a show it’s important to remind yourself of the importance that goal holds to you.
Keep your goals close to your head and heart and motivation will follow.
