Spotlight On NPC Bikini Competitor: Dr. Harriet Davis
Category you compete in: NPC Bikini Division
Date of birth: July 10, 1971
Hometown: Charlotte, North Carolina
Career: Board-Certified Family Medicine & Sports Medicine Physician
What is your favorite contest prep recipe? Breakfast quinoa (tri-colored) with apple slices, blueberries, strawberries and almonds.
What part of your physique are you currently working on? My glutes and hamstrings. I have been a distance runner since high school so the muscles in my legs have always been less defined than those in my upper body. I am working hard to build up my hamstrings and gluteal muscles. I call this endeavor "Operation Bootylicious!"
Name one piece of nutrition/fitness advice that has stuck with you. Rest days are key to muscle recovery. Not allowing enough recovery time in between your weight training workouts can result in overtraining. It is very important to incorporate "rest days" into your weight training program so that you allow time for your muscles to recover and ultimately grow.
If you could compete in one other event (FBB, physique, figure, fitness, bikini) which would it be and why? If I could compete in another event, it would definitely be in the figure division. I am genetically gifted with a very muscular back and shoulders. Because of this, I am often told that I am "too hard" or that I should consider competing in figure.
Why NPC: The NPC is the largest amateur bodybuilding organization in the United States. Moreover, the North Carolina NPC has over 30 IFBB professional athletes of which my trainer is included. The NPC was the only amateur bodybuilding organization that I was aware of when I started training to compete.
What do you like best about competing? I love meeting new people! The new friendships and acquaintances have become my favorite thing about competing. It is so nice to sit backstage and talk with other competitors while waiting for your division to be judged. Bikini is usually one of the last divisions to go on stage. This allows for a great deal of time to sit and "chat" with other competitors.
What are your goals for the future? My plans for 2014 include actively pursuing sponsorships as well as competing at Team Universe, Masters Nationals, and the IFBB North American Championships. My ultimate goal is to earn an IFBB pro card as a bikini competitor and to become a well-known spokesmodel for health and fitness.

Hobbies: Anything that involves fitness! I love to workout...weight training, running, HIIT, cardio, cycling and the list goes on! I also enjoy traveling, reading, shopping, and public speaking.
What is the biggest lesson you have learned over the years when it comes to competing? Looking like a fitness model is one thing but in order to be successful during competition you must possess the "total package" which includes: a fit physique, grace, poise and confidence on stage. No matter how good your physique looks on competition day, if your presentation doesn't match then you may not place as high as expected.
What is your favorite contest prep supplement? I love Humapro protein powder (grape or pineapple flavor)! I mix it with water, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and Cal-Mag Fizz (effervescent blend) and it tastes great!!!
