If you could change into a superhero for a day who would you be and why?
Well first off who wouldn’t want to be a superhero? If I could choose I would want to be supergirl. I’m sure most people feel the same way when I say there is just never enough time in the day. If I had super speed like supergirl I could finish everything I do on a normal day and still have time to save the world.
What made you begin dedicating your lifestyle to this sport?
I was always very insecure with my looks and body growing up. I was teased throughout middle and high school for my weight and appearance.
Most little kids dream of being an astronaut, teacher, Olympian… I would dream of being beautiful. Lifting and being physically active in different areas helped not only change my body into what I wanted but it also helped change my mind set on the different meanings of beauty.
What approach do you take to dieting...carb cycle.keto?
I don’t specifically like to call it “dieting”. During competition season my carbohydrate intake is lower but all year round I eat pretty much the same. Approximately six small meals a day consisting of proteins, carbohydrates, and healthy fats.
What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about competing?
The biggest misconception I feel that a lot of people have when it comes to competing is the belief that it is “unhealthy”. By all means it can be if done improperly but a competitor doesn’t just cycle on and off of clean eating and working out, that is our lifestyle all year round. Competing does not mean crash dieting during competition season and binging on off season. It is a process that takes time but when done right it has so many benefits.
What is the biggest lesson you have learned about YOURSELF during your contest prep?
The biggest lesson I have learned is how strong the body and mind can truly be. When the mind, body, and spirit are all on the same route there really is nothing one can’t accomplish.
Who do you look up and admire and why?
There are so many people that have guided, pushed, and motivated me to get to where I am right now but one person that stands out is my sister Amanda. We are so different and so opposite but at the same time she is my rock when I am unsteady. Even though she does not share the same passion for fitness she has always been there to help me when needed.
