Category you compete in: This is my first year as a figure competitor. I competed in bikini for the 2012 and 2013 season.
Date of birth: 3/6/86
Hometown: Sterling Heights, MI
Career: I incorporate health and wellness in my professional career as a mental health counselor. I help families reach their goals of incorporating physical activities into their daily routine, structure nutrition, provide education on ways to make healthy decisions, and consult with clients who struggle with eating disorders and body image issues.
Sports background: I’m extremely uncoordinated so the only sport I participated in was track as a sprinter. Can’t mess that up!
Why NPC: In my opinion the NPC and IFBB produces the finest athletes.
What do you like best about competing? From my experience it has been hard to build relationships with women who don’t share the same focus and dedication to fitness as I do. Over the past few years I have created close relationships with girls all over the country who I can call or text at literally any time of the day/night for support and guidance. Some of my closest friends I only get to see a few times a year at shows or vacations but we talk all day every day. It’s empowering to see women lifting each other up and motivating each other rather than tearing each other down. I also met my boyfriend Nat Paul through fitness and competing which has been a huge blessing that we share the same lifestyle! We both competed in the NPC Georgia together and prep was a breeze while we both were trained by the same coach, Matt Porter, and focused on the same goal. Now that I’m still in training and he is in off season… well that’s another story haha. And finally, it’s amazing to see how far you can drive yourself once you turn off your mind to fears and doubts and push to the end. Peak week is my favorite part about competing… those final moments where it all comes together and show day I am smiling ear to ear happy to be there and fit! As soon as a show is over I forget about how much effort was put into my prep and I’m ready to do it all over again! I love this sport!
Competition history: I began competing in the NPC in 2012 as a bikini competitor and recently switched to figure which suits my physique better. Here is a list of my show history:
2012: Ron Love Classic Bikini B: 1st place
2012: Natural Michigan/Nicole Wilkins Classic Bikini A: 1st AND overall
2013 NPC Pittsburg Championships Bikini C: 16th
2013 Powerhouse Classic Bikini B: 1st place AND overall
2013: Junior Nationals Bikini D: 13th
2014: NPC Georgia Figure C: 3rd
Next competition: North Americans! I have been wanting to do this show since I began competing and I finally have the ability to do so!
Competitors you look up to: Michigan produces some great figure girls such as Nicole Wilkins, Roshonda Schmitt, Heather Nappi, and Sarah Fechter. Candice Keene and Nicole Wilkins are my all time favorites!
Favorite cheat food: WAFFLES! Like a typical girl… anything chocolate and peanut butter! My cravings change each prep, it’s strange. This time around I really am craving Swedish fish.
Favorite diet food: I could eat sweet potatoes and chicken all day long! I love it! Oatmeal too. I know people make fun of “bro dieting” but honestly I FEEL the best when I am eating foods like chicken, turkey, eggs, sweet potato, rice, and veggies. I have no problem eating those foods year round with cheat meals on the weekends. I feel more energized, light, and in a much better mood than when I eat junk food or when I tried to work with flexible dieting.
Favorite body part to train: Shoulders and back. This past off season I focused a lot on my upper body to make the transition from bikini to figure. I’m focusing on rounding out my shoulders and building up my back while keeping a smaller waist.
Least favorite body part to train: Calves!!! I get terrible calf cramps every time!
Hobbies: Going to the cottage with my family and friends to fish or boat, spending time with my boyfriend and our 2 dogs (a French bulldog, and a bulldog mix), vacations somewhere warm, and creating crazy workout routines with my best friend.
Words to live by: My background on my phone is my all time favorite quote “Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside of you that is GREATER than any obstacle”
