The last time I met Jackie Warner was way back after the first season of Bravo's "Workout" series had wrapped and she had just been told that it had been picked up for another season. A lot has happened in Jackie's world since then...clothing line, workout DVD, the expansion of ‘Sky Lab' (an intense fitness camp), a new TV series (‘Jackie's Gym Takeover') sitting on the starting blocks and a book "This is Why You are Fat" (great title!) set to be unleashed on the public at the beginning of next year. Add to that, the continued success of ‘Sky Sport & Spa' and plans for a line of sports supplements and you have one VERY BUSY individual!
Jillian Michaels is best known for her amazing success on NBCs ‘Biggest Loser' series where she has gained the reputation of being TV's toughest trainer (albeit with a heart of gold!). She also has two best selling diet books under her belt and a merchandising empire that includes clothing, DVD's and supplements.
I recently had the opportunity to talk to Jillian about her latest book "Master Your Metabolism" where she examines how we, as a society, have become hormonally screwed up by all the environmental toxins threatening our endocrine system. I personally think that every home should have a copy of this book, since it is really a survival manual when it comes to living in today's chemical ridden society!
At the age of 45 she has just competed in her first figure competition (Miss Gym 2009 Panama) where she placed 2nd overall. She has also been featured in several advertising campaigns and has been interviewed by many fitness orientated magazines. Hard to believe that just a few years ago Belinda was a pretty straight laced executive, successful yes, but hardly a fitness role model.
Welcome to yet another look at the ‘mind behind the muscle’ of our favorite bodybuilders and forum members. This time around it is the turn of popular forum member ‘Sassy 69’ who has built up quite a reputation as being the ‘go to’ person when it comes to giving out great advice on many forums over the years. So what better place to begin than by discussing her rock star status in the world of muscle forums….
In my last ‘Time Capsule' interview I featured an article I did with Bev Francis revolving around the 1987 Ms Olympia. That same year I also did an interview with Bev which covered her time in power lifting and her switch to the sport of bodybuilding. So, without further ado, here is my interview from ‘Strength Athlete' magazine in its entirety...
Leigh, you've been writing for bodybuilding magazines, websites and nutritional supplement companies since 1985. You've basically followed the sport and brought it to the world through your writing for over 2 decades. What is your take on the way the sport has progressed through the years? At what point in time and in light of what major occurrence did you foresee the sport going down a road that would ultimately lead to its demise?
A former competitive gymnast, Oksana began training when she was 8 years old. She became an IFBB Fitness Pro in 2006 at the IFBB World Amateur Championships. When I attempted to interview her by phone, she asked if I would mind doing it by email. She is studying the English language right now and didn't feel that her English was good enough to participate in a lengthy interview. So, the following is an edited version of my questions and her answers.
