Spotlight On: Lisa Perry
Category you compete in: NPC Bikini
Date of birth: October 16, 1976
Hometown: Born in Dayton, OH and currently live in Indianapolis, IN
Career: Currently waiting for the NFL Lockout to end as I will be assisting one of the newest NFL coaches and coordinating a brand new foundation in his name. Also, working on a new and exciting opportunity with Optimum Nutrition that I am very proud of as well.
What is your favorite contest prep recipe? Tuna, egg whites, onions and a squirt of mustard. Occasionally, I'll add baked yams. Doesn't sound too exciting but I'd combine almost anything as strict as my diet is! Toss me a blender!
What part of your physique are you currently working on? Really working hard on my shoulders. I'm lifting as heavy as I can, so I can achieve a great overall roundness.
Name one piece of nutrition/fitness advice that has stuck with you. Balance is key. Your diet is equally important as much as your cardio, weight lifting, rest and recovery. You must find a balance in all of those to reach your full potential and ideal physique.
If you could compete in one other event (FBB, physique, figure, fitness, bikini) which would it be and why? Funny you asked, I just mentioned this to my coach recently. Eventually down the road and after building more muscle, I would love to compete in figure. I understand the demands your physique needs at each level and I respect each and everyone reaching their goals. For my body, I would love to take it to a place it's never been and I really admire the appearance of the figure competitors. One thing at a time, for now. ;)
Why NPC: My Coach is Kim Oddo and he is affiliated with and fully supports the IFBB and NPC organizations. Therefore, I do too. I feel the NPC truly supports their athletes and is the most recognized in the industry. They give us full coverage and the exposure needed to succeed and become successful. CRÈME DE LA CREME
What do you like best about competing? Being a former NFL cheerleader for 5 years ~ the practice, the sweat and the performance ~ it's all in my blood. I love putting in all the grueling work, taking my physique to it's highest level of fitness and then hitting the stage! Walking out on stage gives me the same butterflies I had running through the tunnel at each NFL game! My adrenaline is pumping!!
What are your goals for the future? I will keep pushing myself to become an IFBB Pro!
Competition history: I'm just a rookie ;) Arnold 2011
Next competition: Jim Manion's 2011 NPC Pittsburgh Championships
Hobbies: My biggest enjoyment in life is spending all the time I can with my 17 month old baby boy. I LOVE cooking for family and friends, going to new places and trying out new foods. Everyday something in my life involves music, fashion or sports.
What is the biggest lesson you have learned over the years when it comes to competing? Since I'm new to the scene, I am learning to stay open minded and to accept all criticism as constructive criticism. I have a lot to learn and a lot of work to do. I accept the good and the bad, it's all a learning process for me and I'll never stop learning. Having a baby, then entering this industry I knew that I would literally have to give it my all. There's no time for cheating, crying or whining to "quickly" transform my physique and expect to compete with the best. This process doesn't happen overnight, something I am currently learning. My lifestyle must be consistent and scheduled so I can handle everything in my life.
What is your favorite contest prep supplement? Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy
