Spotlight On: Heather Nicole Frystak
Category you compete in: I currently compete in Figure Division and Sports Fitness Model. I have a background in the Bikini Division as well! Variety is the spice of life!
Date of birth: 09/27/1982
Hometown: Park Ridge, IL
Career: Graphic Designer / NASM Personal Trainer / Luxury Suite Captain for the Chicago Bears!! ((I love to work))
What is your favorite contest prep recipe? I crave sweets a LOT, so my most favorite contest prep recipe is my "Heather" version of ice cream! I take 1 scoop of Vanilla Whey Protein, 1 cup of crushed ice, 1/4 fresh blueberries, 3/4 cup of water and 1 teaspoon of natural peanut butter. Blend and enjoy the icy cold goodness. YUMBOLICIOUS!
What part of your physique are you currently working on? My bootie and hamstrings. I find that working out my legs twice per week and incorporating power exercises into each workout, such as box jumps, really speeds up the results!
Name one piece of nutrition/fitness advice that has stuck with you. "You get what you train for." This is one piece of advice that never ever leaves my mind. Regarding diet, exercise or any goal, whether big or small, it holds 100% true. I have learned that my end result is based on the effort I put into it.
If you could compete in one other event (FBB, physique, figure, fitness, bikini), which would it be and why? I would compete in bikini because it lends to a softer, feminine look. Figure is as hard of a look that I want to achieve. I competed in the bikini division back in 2009 and took the title at the ABA North American Show. It is a fun division to compete in and allows me to switch up my training drastically.
Why NPC: The NPC is a solid and competitive organization. Their shows are run smoothly and extremely organized which creates a great experience on the day of an event. The only means to qualify for an IFBB Pro Card is via an NPC pro qualifying national contest. That is definitely a goal of mine in the near future!
What do you like best about competing? The amount of people that I inspire along the way. Hands down, it is the BEST part of competing. I receive questions, emails, and stories of people just in awe of how I stick to a strict diet or how I workout a couple hours each day. If I have inspired just one person to make a healthy change along my journey, then mission accomplished!
What are your goals for the future? Right now my goal is to continue training hard in the figure division, while gaining knowledge everyday to push me forward. I am taking the steps to become sponsored as an athlete so that I am able to reach out to others and become a role model within the fitness industry. I want to take fitness modeling to the next level. Ultimately, I am reaching for an IFBB Figure Pro Card.
Competition history: 2011, 2010 and 2009 Illinois State 1st Place Sports Fitness Model • 2011 Illinois State 4th Place Figure Tall Class • 2011 NPC Mid-Illinois 5th Place Figure Class D • 2009 Team USA 1st Place Sports Fitness Model • 2009 North America Natural 1st Place Bikini Diva
Next competition: 2011 Windy City Classic in Chicago! SO STOKED for this show!!!!
Hobbies: I enjoy watching The Food Network so that I can look at meals in which I can rarely indulge in. Haha! No but really, I LOVE watching cooking shows such as Chopped and The Next Food Network Star to learn great cooking techniques and tips. I currently model for The Original Rockstar, which has been a fun ride so far, including edgy photo shoots and fun fashion shows for a ridiculously incredible clothing line! In addition to being a Figure competitor, I am also a marathon runner, I know, hard to believe. I love jogging outside for miles in the sunshine while listening to music. Above all, I am a family girl and my best times are spent with my wonderful fiance, my family and friends. On my downtime I like to explore the world of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to keep current with the graphic design industry.
What is the biggest lesson you have learned over the years when it comes to competing? Everyday is a new day. We all have bad days, times we cheat on our diet, have a workout that just isn't up to par or feel like the world is out to get us. I have learned that life isn't perfect and neither are we. The best part is, each day you wake up is a new day. A second chance. A day to set a new goal or work harder at a current one. Each day is a blank canvas. You decide what the final picture will look like.
What is your favorite contest prep supplement? It can vary but currently my BSN N.O. Xplode (Fruit Punch) is on the top of my list! It definitely gives me a nice boost before my workouts. Although, everyone always tells me that I do NOT need any more energy. Lol! I was born hyper, what can I say?
