Spotlight On NPC Figure Competitor: Brittany Nicole

Spotlight On NPC Figure Competitor: Brittany Nicole

Category you competereceived m mid 1382768475204 b4add723705decd710 0 in: Figure
Date of birth: April 30
Hometown: Colorado Springs, but I’m originally from good ol’ Ft Worth, Teeeeexas! :)
Career: Compounding medicine in the pharmacy while pursuing my Pharm D.. Sometimes I think my brain just might explode haha!

What is your favorite contest prep recipe? Hmm… Are we talking 12 weeks out or 7 weeks out when Coach takes away all the deeeeelicious stuff? I would be a big fat fibber if I told you I didn’t fantasize about protein pancakes or waffles during fasted cardio in the morning! BUT nothing compares to a thick fudge brownie Dymatize XT shake with a little unsweetened coconut flakes before bed as I snuggle with my pup.. *long pause* OH SORRY, was having a moment.. Lol!

What part of your physique are you currently working on? Knowing how far I’ve come already- I am very pleased with the new changes in my physique, and never expected to do so well in my first competition?! Right now I am focused on my back, shoulders, and bringing a tighter package to the Rocky stage. My original plan was to work on  glutes and hamstrings, but unfortunately I’ve had a lupus flare for almost 2 weeks now. The inflammation is so bad in my sacroiliac joints I’m lucky it hasn’t left me completely immobile like it usually does. Even doing the stair mill puts me in tears, but pain or not, I haven’t missed a day in the gym- and I won’t- not even if there’s a fire! ;)

Name one piece of nutrition/fitness advice that has stuck with you.
Ya know, the most random people that come into your life usually leave the biggest mark. I have grown pretty close to a particular person the last few months whom has really made a difference in the way I think. I look up to him very much because he lives the lifestyle, is super supportive, yet tells it like it is. One night after he politely listened to me in a carb depleted crazy state (hey, it happens!), he said, “Get yourself together. Focus.” At that moment everything became clear, and I haven’t been the same since. For that I am truly grateful. There are a million things that can keep you from your goals- IF you let them. Get your mind right, make your plan a priority, and take one day at a time. Most importantly, FOCUS.

If you could compete in one other event (FBB, physique, figure, fitness, bikini) which would it be and why?

Fitness for sure!! I have such a deep appreciation and respect for every competitor, but with fitness you can really let your personality shine through. I’m the biggest dork and would totally add in the dance from Superstar or even bust out some robot action.. It’s probably best I stick with Figure, poor Adam has already lost enough hair as it is with 19 competitors all doing peak week at the same time for the Natural! Can’t handle these killer dance moves. He’d go bald.

Why NPC: Honestly, (and I may get smacked for this answer) I just fell into it. My buddy Nick knew I wanted to do Figure, so after calling me out on it, he introduced me to Adam, and he said, “OK you’ll do the GNC Natural.” Then there was no going back. Being so new to compeScreenshot 2013-10-14-21-14-13-1ting, I’m still learning all the lingo and different associations! After getting to know a ton of the NPC family though, I am very happy to be part of it. Everyone is so uplifting and supportive, it really IS a family. It’s pretty awesome, and the level of competition is elite!

What do you like best about competing?
I love that competing is the total package; it’s emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual. Competing was always in my heart, it’s a dream I am very passionate about. Having been sick most of my life, I was basically a science project to the doctors from all of the constant testing. I would be stuck in the hospital just watching people through the windows living a life I couldn’t have. Up all night being pricked by needles, drugs pumped into my arms, puking so much my nose would bleed. Lost too many memories with family and friends due to depression and illness. My life was just wasting away and I felt like a prisoner in my own body! I lived through photos of competitors in the magazines, wishing I could trade places with them even for just one day. The thing with competing is, it’s not about them- it’s about you. I love competing because it allows you to take the limits off yourself. For you to become better, you have to work for it. No one can magically do it for you, if you truly believe in yourself and have the determination- then who can stop you?? Competing awoke my spirit and lit a fire in my heart. It set me free and every day I wake up, I praise God for it and for all the people that helped change my life.

What are your goals for the future?
To be an IFBB Figure Pro. Just saying that gets me choked up! I didn’t realize how many people would be touched by my story and give me the honor of hearing theirs. Yes, competing with lupus affects my life, but I feel it’s more than just about me. With every rep, every minute of cardio, everything- in a way I’m fighting for those that are in the position I once was. I’m fighting for my mom and little brother that are also affected by this disease. My goal is to be a light for people and to show them that they can achieve anything their heart desires. If I can motivate or inspire just one person to put aside their excuses and go after what they want, then this whole journey has been worth it. When you have a strong belief in yourself coupled with an undying determination, nothing is impossible.

Hobbies: Hobbies?? received m mid 1382768475204 b4add723705decd710 1Uh.. Don’t you mean gym? Haha! I love to worship at church, paint, read, and mold sculptures. I also love to experiment in the kitchen and try new recipes.. When not so close out to a show of course!

What is the biggest lesson you have learned over the years when it comes to competing?
Being very new to the competition world, I would say TRUST. Trust your trainer, trust yourself, and trust the process. Not everyone will agree with what you are doing, what you may or may not be eating post workout.. Why the sky is green and the grass is blue.. They will stop you in the middle of your set to give you all of their reasons why you are “wasting your energy doing hammer curls because their teacher’s best friend’s boyfriend said so” and that’s okay.. Don’t argue with them. If your Coach has you doing hammer curls, just smile sweetly, grab a heavier weight, and finish that set like a boss (true story). Trust that your trainer has your best interest at heart. After all, when you succeed, so do they!

What is your favorite contest prep supplement?
Amongst my buffet of supplements in the kitchen, protein powder is numero uno. Want blueberry protein pancakes? Dymatize Blueberry Muffin! Have a hankering for a frosty? Dymatize Fudge Brownie shake! AND they have Cinnamon Bun Casein that will make your tongue do The Macarena. Aaaaye!

Favorite Quote:
There are too many quotes and scriptures that hold a place in my heart. Of course I could not get through anything without the strength that Christ gives me. Before I walk into the gym or step on stage I take a minute out to pray, and then say, “Alright God, it’s all you.. You’ve got me this far.. Please get me through this.” And ya know, He does. :)
