Owning the Stage!

Owning the Stage!

stacy2Every girl that walks the figure stage has earned her way up there. But, who wants to simply “walk” the figure stage, when you can “own” it instead! When there are so many girls who look great under the lights, what can you do to make yourself stand out? “Owning” the stage versus simply “walking” it, can make the difference in a top five placing versus a top ten placing. It is the small things that you do on stage that can make a huge difference in your overall presentation. Showing confidence and making it look natural are key when it comes to catching the judges’ eyes….and holding them.

*   One of the most important things to remember is that PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!! If you have not practiced both walking and posing in your heels, it will show on stage. This should be part of your routine, just as cardio and lifting are a part of your schedule. Take time to walk and hit poses, both in front of the mirror and without the guidance of the mirror. If you are required to complete a T-walk, practice many variations of the T-walk so you can comfortably change it up at the last minute if needed. BE PREPARED for anything!

*   The judges want to see you looking like you are having fun on that stage. If you look nervous, or if you look like you are thinking too hard, you will not “own” that stage. It must look effortless. Smile and show your personality. Nothing says “this is my stage” like a big confident smile!

*   Add some flair to your posing in the model turns or t-walk. NO BODYBUILDING POSES....leave that to the bodybuilders! Stick to traditional figure poses, but give it your own flair. You can do this in the way you pivot, the way you put a little hip action into the turn, or the way you transition your body into the poses. Keep in mind that figure is not flirtatious. In figure, confidence in presentation is what appeals to the judges.

*   Take your time! Do not rush through your poses. Running across the stage and not giving the judges time to see you pose in each position, does not exude confidence and does not allow you to own the stage. This is your time. You have worked EXTREMELY hard to get there, so take your time and OWN that stage!!

*   When you pick your poses for model or t-walk, make sure you choose poses you feel natural transitioning into. If you feel awkward transitioning into the pose or doing the pose itself, it will in turn, LOOK awkward!

*   Grooming does count! Make sure you figure out your hair ahead of time. Do a trial run to make sure your tan will turn out just right, and plan out your makeup in advance. Choose jewelry that compliments, and does not overwhelm or underwhelm your suit! The little touches are noticed by the judges. It will make you feel great and look polished as well!stacy3

On a stage full of beautiful, hard bodies, be sure you set yourself apart! You can shine and show personality without off the wall antics and wild grooming. Do it with style and class! OWN that stage with your smile, flair, confidence, and unique style!
