Fit! Fun! And 21!!! Journal 1: Balance
My name is Darrian Tissenbaum and I’m a 21-year-old IFBB fitness pro from Pittsburgh, PA. Choosing a healthy, fit lifestyle at any age comes with its fair share of challenges, but choosing it at a younger age, when most of my friends hit the bar for drinks instead of the barbell, leaves me with a few different issues. You’ll learn more about me week by week, but in this first blog I’d like to talk about balance.
Everything that exists in our daily lives has a weight to it that takes a pull on our balance of life. Everyone walks around not paying enough attention to the different amounts of weight different activities, people, and objects hold, this can cause your scale of life to become lopsided VERY quickly! For instance everything that exists to you—your dog, your spouse, your roommate, your job, your workouts, your meals, your friends—is something extra in your life that has a weight. It’s your job to realize the amount of “weight” or priority something adds to your balance of life.
Assigning amounts of weight to the different things in your life comes with realizing how important those different things in your life are. Taking the time to look at all the different activities and people that fill your day is important. You may learn there are certain things or people you spend way too much time on. You may learn the opposite and that those very important things such as certain relationships deserve more weight in your balancing act. Orienting your life towards what you want to accomplish and what your main priorities are will help you realize exactly how important these different weights in your life are.
Here are my easy steps to create some new balance in your life:
1. BE OBJECTIVE. Take an objective look at all the things that fill your daily life and list them
2. ORIENT YOURSELF. Figure out what objectives in your life are most important to orient your life to get what you want out of it.
3. BE DECISIVE. This is probably the hardest part, take a hard look and what things aren’t helping you achieve the balance you want and what things need to become more of a priority.
4. BALANCE CHECKS. Every successful system that exists has a “checks and balances” system. Be sure every once and awhile to check yourself. Make sure you’re living in balance towards the things you want.
Balance is important to living a healthy, fit, and normal life. If you can find balance in all the crazy activities, people, and jobs around you, you’ll be able to do all of those things much more successfully, with much more joy, and with a new found BALANCE.
Stay fit and fun,
