What do you feel is the WORST part of contest prep?

In my opinion, the worst part of contest prep is the mental part of it all. The mental aspect of preparing for a contest is also the most important aspect of prepping for a show. Your mind will make you or break you. You just have to learn how to tap into the power of your mind and harness your mental toughness, which comes easier with more experience and maturity. Always be in constant competition with yourself, no one else, and you will succeed in this sport.

Would you please tell us a little about your workout schedule?

I try to keep my weight training time at about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes a day. During contest prep, I also like to separate my cardio and weight training sessions, so that I'm not in the gym for hours at a time. I train one muscle group each day. I try my best to hit legs and back twice a week, since those are the two largest muscle groups. One workout of each group is a heavy day and the other is more of a high intensity/repetition volume type workout day.

If you had to lose one of your 5 senses, which one would you prefer to lose and why?

I would prefer to lose my sense of smell, so that during contest prep, the tempting smells of my weaknesses such as cookies and doughnuts don't haunt me. My sweet tooth is out of this world!

If you could change one thing about this sport what would it be?image(2)

If I could change one thing about this sport, I would change the way people view it and us as competitors from the outside. We all compete in this sport because we love a challenge, at least I do! I love being given a constant reason to improve and be better than who I was yesterday. We aren't addicted to the gym, like a lot of people think. It's the results and progress that we see that becomes addicting and makes us hungry for more.

If you had a time capsule what would you put inside it and why?

A CD with all of my current favorite workout songs to see how much music changes once the capsule is opened, a current McDonald's menu to see what they add to and take off of it and today's newspaper.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

The Bahamas!

What advice do you have for women who would like to get involved in and compete in the sport of bodybuilding?

I truly believe there is always room for improvement and one should never settle or become comfortable in life, because that is when your competition has the chance to either catch up or pass you. Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway. When something is really meant for you, it doesn't matter who is doubting, hating, or hoping you fail. You just keep on working, believing, and pursing what's in your heart. Obstacles are the things we see when we take our focus off of our goals. Allow what God has put into your heart to guide you more than what the world has put before your eyes. When God sees you doing your part, developing what he has given you, then he will do his part and open doors that no man can shut.

What is a day-in-the-life of Hanna Hallman like?

Morning cardio: 8am-9am

Work: 10am-3pm

Nap time: 4pm-6pm (my favorite)

Weight training: 7:30pm-9pm

Favorite Motivational Quote: "You can't get much done in life if you only work on the days when you feel good." -Jerry West

In closing, Who would you like to give a shout out to? I would like to give a special shout out to the man who believed in me more than I believed in myself from the start, my posing coach, Steve Payne. Any time I ever started to doubt myself, he was right there to wake me up and make me remember that I am on a constant mission to beat my past self and that giving up or losing faith is not an option. When everyone was trying to talk me out of going for my pro card at Nationals, he was the one positive voice constantly telling me I can do anything I put my little mind to and no one can stop me. There isn't a person on this earth that I trust more than this man right here. Not only can he pose better than any competitor to ever step on a stage, but he is also the most amazing and caring friend/mentor I could have ever hoped to have the pleasure to meet.
