Spotlight On: Danielle Ruban

2011fitfig 28Category you compete in: I compete in Fitness! The most exciting category out there!

Date of birth: Oct 10/1983…A Libra to the bone and a child of the 80’s

Hometown: I just move to Cambridge, Ontario, but spent most of my life growing up in Kitchener

Career: I am a Personal Trainer and I love my job!

What is your favorite childhood memory? I have many great child hood memories, but one that stands out is when I won my first medal at a gymnastics competition. It was 2nd place on beam and I smiled and walked around with that medal hanging on my neck for a month! I was 9 years old.

Name a song that motivates you. A song that motivates me…is, “Dream On” by Aerosmith. I especially like the line, “You’ve got to lose to know how to win.”

What is your biggest gym pet peeve? Stinky people…it’s called deodorant and it’s not expensive!!

How do you like to reward yourself? I reward myself with down time. The bigger the accomplishment, the greater the reward. For example after a long day of work and two workout sessions I wine down in front of the TV for an hour before bed or read . After Nationals I went to a cottage for a week and truly maxed and relaxed! “ No rest is worth anything except the rest that is earned”.

If you could change one things about the world what would it be? People are so lost, confused and corrupted…I would make everyone give a S*%t about the world we all share and live in. I would implant whatever is missing in their hearts.

What do you do right before you step onstage?

Right before I step on stage I have a quick flashback to every single thing I did to prepare for that moment. I tell myself to leave everything I have out there and give it my all!

danielle-31 (2)Nook, Book or Kindle? I just found out how awesome Kindles are! I get so much more reading done now.:)

If someone followed you for the day what would they be most surprised about? People may be surprised that there are barely any songs on my IPod that aren’t from the 80’s or prior. 70’s music is the dominant era on my playlists. I just don’t have the same taste for anything made after the 90’s…I guess that means that I’m not ‘hip.’ LOL!

What is your preferred tanning product and why? I try not to tan too much using sunbeds. It’s too risky and not great for your skin. I haven’t found a product that I prefer for show color yet. I have used ProTan and Jana Tana and like them both. I think ProTan wins because it doesn’t turn green under your arms! Lol!

Favorite Quote: “You can’t discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of shore”—unknown.

To conquer the ‘impossible’ we all must take a risk and step out of our comfort zone into the unknown.

RUBAN9S1-199G[1]Who would you like to thank? I would like to thank my family, husband and friends. I couldn’t do what I do without your support! Also, my coach, IFBB Pro Tammy Strome. Last but not least, all the great staff I work with at The Athletic Club in Guelph! And thank you Gail Auerbach and RX Muscle for interviewing me. :)
