How has your life changed since you adopted this lifestyle and started competing ? As far as having time taken up by a hobby/sport, not much as I have been a dancer from the age of three years old. This included dance practice almost every day Then local dance competitions and festivals on weekends. So my life has always had a busy schedule.
As far as the fitness competing goes, my life is still busy, although I have traveled to places where I never thought I would go. I am very fortunate that my husband is enthusiastic about the sport and we train together and he travels with me. But, I do feel guilty in the fact that I don't spend much time with family, although they support me all the way. I have also made some really good friends through the sport and continue to do so.
What have you found to be the best way to balance family, friends career, this lifestyle etc.. ? Like I said, I do feel guilty over not spending much time with family due to training, so I make sure that in the off season, I do spend time with them. I also like to spend time with my husband other than in the gym. We don't get holidays together anymore as our money is taken up by traveling to the United States to compete, so I do miss that. Though we can have holidays when I retire. My job becomes harder as I get closer to a competition due to my diet, but I soldier through. I just get just keep my head down and go for it. I also miss socialising with friends. But again I try and make up for this when I am not preparing for a competition.
If you could change places with one competitor for the day, who would it be and why ? It has to be Adela Garcia. I would love to know what it feels like to be at the top of your game and for people to admire and recognise you for your hard work and determination. To be honest, I would like to change with anyone of my competitors, as I am the only one from the UK and would like to see the lifestyle and daily routine that someone who lives in another country has and how it differs from my own.
Name two of the most inspirational people in your life and tell why they inspire you ? My husband for his dedication to me and the sport. He encourages me so much especially when I feel like I am getting nowhere and feeling down. He is my backbone and keeps me focused. He is my husband, friend, training partner, coach and even helps me choreograph my routines. The next people are my parents for getting me to dance lessons from when I was young. I come from a large family so money was tight. They always made sure that I got to my dance lessons, which was an expense they could have done without. I have carried this focus through into my fitness career and the dancing is my base for my routine round.
In closing, who would you like to give a shout out to ? All the fitness girls both amateur and pro. This is the hardest catagory in the sport and fitness girls don't seem to get the recognitition they deserve. With the dieting ,training and routine practice, it is no easy task. I also want to give a shout out to family and friends who have supported me through my career and believed in me from the start. I also would like to mention Fit4u bikini's for providing my bikini's and Better Bodies Gym in Barnsley for sponsoring me in the Pittsburgh Pro Show. xx
