If you could change into a superhero for a day who would you be and why?
If I had to choose one it would be Rogue! Not only because she is super sexy ( we all of course want to be that :)) but she is able to absorb others’ powers. This way I could have any power of my choosing, and knowing me, I would never be able to decide on just one power…..ie I am VERY bad with decisions !
What made you begin dedicating your lifestyle to this sport?
Once I began learning the ways we can manipulate our bodies through the slightest alterations in diet and exercise I was hooked! I love trying new things and and consistently trying to switch up my approach. The best part about this sport is always having room for improvement.
What approach do you take to dieting...carb cycle..keto?
I am a big fan of carb cycling. My body doesn’t do well with many carbs, So I find having one very high carb day and one additional day with a smaller carb bump to be most effective for my body.
What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about competing?
Most girls have the idea that competing is extremely cut throat and the other girls are rude or unfriendly. I have found the exact opposite in all of my show experiences. Most of us are there to have fun and enjoy the successes of our hard training. Someone is always there to lend a hand and answer questions. I have also made MANY very good friends backstage at the events.
What is your most embarrassing childhood memory?
I am a very competitive person by nature; I thrive on it! In 9th grade a had gym class with one of my big crushes. We were running the mile one day for time for a grade for final exams. I thought it would be impressive if I beat him so even though I had eaten nothing but a chocolate bar, I pushed myself to finish ahead of him. Well, he was impressed and came over to chat, score! Not really, I put my little love interest ahead of my brain and instead of sparking a convo with him I threw up chocolate on both of us. FAIL.
What is the biggest lesson you have learned about YOURSELF during your contest prep?
We have all heard the saying that we are our own worst critics, but I have never found this to be truer than during prep. Some weeks can be so difficult….the scale doesn’t budge, I miss a work out, I feel cranky or tired and I tell myself things just aren’t working out. Through the ups and downs, I have found that I always need to have someone there to push me. Whether that is my coach to call when I want to cheat on my diet, or a lifting buddy to make sure I don’t skip that work out; it is important to know you are not alone!
Who do you look up and admire and why?
I tell her this all the time, but my coach Tracey Greenwood has always been such an inspiration to me. From the day I met her and ever since she always stays “in shape”. She doesn’t have an off-season where gaining 15+ pounds is acceptable. It is always difficult after a show to stay on track, but in working with her I have found ways to make staying in shape a year round constant for me not just during show season.
